Use voice commands to control music and podcasts with Amazon Alexa!
Get started
To get this done, open the site you want to use as an “Open as window” link, then open Applicationize.me in a new tab. Copy and paste the site from the first tab into the field marked “WEB APP URL.” Click the web button that says “GENERATE & DOWNLOAD CHROME EXTENSION.”.
Google Chrome Spotify App
Download the Alexa app, open it, and link your Spotify account with these steps:
- Tap the menu in the top-left.
- Tap Settings, then Music & Podcasts.
- Select Spotify, then Link account to Alexa.
- Enter your Spotify account details.

- Well no everyone uses Chrome or any other browsers soem ppl liek me uses FB messenger or skype and the deafult browser so a fix so that desctop spotify reconises a spotify link and opens it in spotify would be great i my self hate the Web spotify its anoying 99.9% of the time.

Set Spotify as your default service for music and podcasts so you don’t need to specify “on Spotify” at the end of your voice commands to play music:
- Tap the menu in the top-left.
- Tap Settings, then Music & Podcasts.
- Tap Choose default music services.
Note: To set Spotify as your default podcast service, tap Choose default podcast service. - Select Spotify and tap DONE.
Note: You still need to say “on Spotify” at the end of commands to play podcasts.

Now just ask Alexa to play something! E.g. 'Alexa, play Discover Weekly'. Check out the Amazon help site for supported languages.

Not working?
- Your web browser may need updating. You can check and update it in the Help section of your browser’s menu.
- Try opening the web player in a private/incognito window. Find the option to open a new private/incognito window in your browser’s menu.
- If you see the message “Playback of protected content is not enabled”, check out Enable the web player.
- Check @SpotifyStatus for any ongoing issues.
- Some shared or public networks (e.g. schools/work/office) restrict access to certain services. You can contact those responsible for managing the network for more information.
